Professor Halton Cheadle is an Executive Director of the Resolve Group, which he co-founded in March 1999. He is an attorney and ex-Senior Partner of Cheadle Thompson & Haysom, where he was one of the founding directors. He is also Professor of Labour Law at the University of Cape Town and has acted as a Judge of the Labour Court and the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court. He was also the Deputy Director of the Centre for Applied Legal Studies, University of the Witwatersrand and has been appointed to various commissions of enquiry and government delegations.
He is former special advisor to the Minister of Labour and was the principal architect of the Labour Relations Act, 1995 and continues to participate in the drafting of legislation for a number of government departments and countries. He has been appointed onto the ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations.
Halton is the recipient of various awards and fellowships and has presented extensively at national and international conferences. He has published widely and is the co-author of a number of leading textbooks. His most recent works include:
